5 things to know about Surrogacy

July 2, 2021

Do you want to embark on this wonderful adventure of Surrogacy? Here are 5 things to know before you start the process.

Surrogate motherhood: a pregnancy like any other

In terms of pregnancy, surrogacy makes no difference. It will take place normally, under medical supervision. However, there is only one specificity: fertilization does not take place naturally, but “artificially”, through the donation of spermatozoa and/or oocytes.

Surrogacy can be a failure

Like any pregnancy, Surrogacy can result in a miscarriage. Nevertheless, the surrogate mother will be monitored throughout the gestation period to maximize the chances of success.

Surrogacy: a budget to plan for

The use of surrogacy is expensive in most countries. For example, you should expect to pay between 40,000 and 60,000 euros, including the cost of accompaniment.

Your child may be born abroad…

Is your surrogate mother on the other side of the world? No problem, many countries, such as Ukraine, allow children born through Surrogacy on their territory to adopt the nationality of their foreign parents.

What status of the parents?

Since 2020, parents receive a full transcription of their child’s birth certificate.

This means that both intended parents are recognized as biological parents.

Thus, in the child’s birth certificate, the names of both parents are registered without the need for the second parent to adopt the child, as previously required by the partial transcription.
