PapSEEK: early detection of ovarian and uterus cancers

PapSEEK: early detection of ovarian and uterus cancers

March 4, 2021

Often discovered at an advanced stage, ovarian cancer is the 4th leading cause of cancer-related death in women. Each year, this disease affects around 4,500 women in France. For some years now, early detection of this cancer has been possible thanks to a new DNA test, called PapSEEK.

This test consists of taking DNA samples from the cervix, the blood and the uterus to detect the genetic mutations that are present in cancer cells. The PapSEEK test, which has proven to be extremely effective, aims to analyse the 18 genes associated with uterine and ovarian cancers.

The PapSEEK test can now detect ovarian and uterine cancers at an early stage. It increases patients’ chances of recovery and reduces mortality.

Created in 2018, the test should soon be available if research progresses. It will be performed by gynecologists and will not require a general anesthetic.
