Surrogacy: What are the requirements for becoming a surrogate mother?

May 12, 2021

One of the most important steps that all prospective parents go through in a surrogacy programme is the selection of a surrogate mother, also known as a gestational carrier.

Be within a defined age range

A surrogate mother must be between 21 and 35 years old, maybe older if her health allows her to carry the pregnancy to term. However, women within this age range are considered to be at the peak of their reproductive abilities, while ensuring a healthy baby.

Having a healthy body

Being a surrogate mother requires that you take care of your body as much as possible. She must not smoke or have any addictions (alcohol, drugs, etc.), and she must be free of any illnesses or psychiatric history that could interfere with the mental health of the future baby. Depression, STDs less than one year old and pregnancy-related complications are eliminated.

Have a stable lifestyle

Often, gestational carriers are women who have already started a family. Their participation in the programme therefore provides a better standard of living for their families. In addition to the financial benefits, Ukrainian surrogate mothers are proud of the beauty of the gesture and are proud to help parents in their desire for a child.
