Infertility: why don’t the children arrive?

September 23, 2020

When we talk about sterility, we often think of women. But this is far from the truth. There are many reasons, and it is not only about women. Sterility is, above all, a matter related to the couple.

The origins of infertility can come from :

  • the woman – 30%,
  • the man – 30%,
  • an incompatibility between the two partners – 30%,
  • unknown causes (often psychological) – 10%.

What are the causes of female sterility?

There are many reasons:

  • Uterine problems (malformations, fibroids or polyps, uterine synechia, endometriosis),
  • Tubal abnormalities (congenitally blocked tubes, tubes blocked due to infections),
  • Ovarian dysfunction (organic abnormalities: cysts, ovarian endometriosis),
  • Functional abnormalities: polycystic ovaries, hormonal disorders),
  • Psychological problems.

Causes of sterility in men

Approximately one-third of infertility cases are male. In men, infertility can be caused by a problem of genetic origin (like cystic fibrosis, Klinefelter’s syndrome) and vascular alteration or hormonal dysfunction. Sterility can be related to testicular problems or obstruction of the genital tract caused by infections.

Often pregnancy is impossible because of incompatibility between the two partners. Sometimes the cervical mucus is too acidic and therefore immobilizes the sperm.

Finally, the psychological factor should be taken into account. In 10% of cases, the causes of infertility are indeed unexplained.

However, despite all these reasons, there are solutions. Do not hesitate to ask us to find out more, our team will answer you as soon as possible.
