October 4, 2021

It's well known that a healthy lifestyle is important for women who want to increase their chances of getting pregnant during IVF. Before starting, it's recommended that both partners quit smoking and drinking alcohol, and reduce their caffeine intake. The latter is said to have negative effects on the success of IVF.

What do the studies say?

According to researchers, caffeine consumption at the beginning of IVF treatment decreases the chances of success. For example, in women who consume about 5 cups of coffee per day, the chances of success decrease by 50%.

Should you stop drinking coffee during IVF?

Not necessarily. According to experts, caffeine does not interfere with female fertility if you consume less than 5 cups of coffee per day. However, it is recommended not to exceed 300 mg of caffeine per day (the equivalent of 2 cups of filter coffee or 4 cups of espresso).

What about men? According to studies, men who consume less than one cup of coffee per day have the best chances of becoming fathers.
