Since the bioethics law went into effect last September, transcriptions of Ukrainian birth certificates have been temporarily suspended. Here's what you need to know if you're in the process of surrogacy or preparing to return home with your baby.
There is no reason to worry. A translated and apostilled foreign birth certificate allows procedures in France, because it opens the same rights as a French birth certificate.
To carry out procedures with the prefecture, the CAF or the CPAM, remember to have several translated and apostilled copies of the Ukrainian birth certificate.
When will transcriptions resume? Currently, there is no specific date, but the French Embassy in Ukraine keeps all the files and will contact all couples to inform them of the resumption of transcriptions. You will then be able to have a French birth certificate from the Nantes court.
The transcriptions will probably not be complete, but will resume partially, with the designation of the biological father of the child. In this case, the family record book will be issued by the Nantes court at the end of the adoption procedure. To apply for adoption, remember to keep a copy of your surrogate mother’s declaration of abandonment of rights.
We hope that the situation will return to normal as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please contact us!
