Breastfeeding during ART: yes or no?
Currently, fertility doctors often advise weaning their child before starting an ART protocol. One of the reasons they give for this is the risk of the child receiving medication through the mother’s milk.
Studies of drugs commonly used in ART show that none of them cause side effects that threaten the health of the breastfed baby.
However, the majority of drugs may reduce milk production in a woman undergoing ART. However, the researchers assure us that this is not a reason to wean your baby. Here is why.
First of all, because this decrease (even if it is probable) is not certain, especially as the pregnancy itself is a cause of this decrease. So a breastfeeding woman who wants to get pregnant will see a drop in milk production during her pregnancy.
