Egg donation

Egg donation

Egg donation is an integral part of the assisted reproduction, which is intended for couples who are having difficulty having a baby for various reasons.

In a lifetime, a healthy woman produces about 400,000 oocytes in her body from the immature forms of ova. These eggs come from what is called the natural stock of eggs in a woman’s ovaries.

Patients can choose a donor who fully meets their needs, their phenotype. The egg donor profile provides as much information as possible about the candidates, and photos are attached.

Before becoming an egg donor, the woman gives her informed written consent for ovarian stimulation and follicular puncture.

Egg donation involves careful selection – a donor must meet the following requirements:

  • age between 20 and 30 years;
  • have at least one healthy child;
  • be in good physical and mental health, including the absence of serious hereditary diseases.

The main criteria for selecting donors can be seen as the presence of a conscious desire to help people, as well as an understanding of the donation process.

At the next stage, the woman has to undergo a series of examinations (therapist, psychiatrist, gynecologist) and pass all the tests. If all stages of the medical examination have been successfully completed – ovarian stimulation, that is, daily hormone injections for 10-14 days, begins. The final step is the puncture of the ovaries, where an average of ten oocytes are collected, the strongest of which are either directly used in-vitro fertilization or stored.
