Surrogacy

Surrogacy

Ukraine is one of the few countries in the world where the use of most reproductive technologies, especially surrogacy or surrogate motherhood, is perfectly legal. In this regard, Ukrainian lawmakers have been much more progressive than most of their European counterparts.

Surrogacy is the only way for women who don’t have a uterus or who have serious illnesses to have a genetic child. With this method of infertility treatment, an embryo is transferred to the uterus of a surrogate mother resulting in  the fecundation of the genetic mother’s egg by the genetic father’s sperm. For nine months, the surrogate mother bears a child with whom she has no genetic relationship. A newborn is then genetically and legally considered to be the child of a married couple whose embryo has been transferred to the uterus of the surrogate mother at the clinic.

The stages of the surrogate motherhood program:

  1. Preliminary examinations 1-2 months
  2. First trip for the donation of biological material (2-day sperm donation, stimulation and 15-day egg donation)
  3. Creation of embryos 5 days
  4. Preimplantation diagnosis of embryos 20 days (not compulsory)
  5. Choice and preparation of the surrogate mother 2 months
  6. Implantation and pregnancy test (HCG rate) 2 weeks
  7. Ultrasound and confirmation of pregnancy 2 weeks
  8. Next attempt in case of unsuccessful in 3-4 months
  9. A 9 month of pregnancy follow-up
  10. Childbirth and discharge from the maternity 2-5 days
  11. DNA test (For most countries 5 days, for Canada 2 weeks)
  12. Obtaining the Ukrainian birth certificate with its apostille and its translation 7 days
  13. Meeting at the embassy 2-3 days
  14. Obtaining the visa 3-5 day
